João Fonte Santa studied painting at the Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa. He began by dedicating himself to the production of underground comics. Slowly, however, his work would assert itself in the field of painting. Working from an extensive fund of images and pop culture references, he built up a work that is both visually attractive and pertinent in the way it presents a particularly critical vision of the world. He has exhibited regularly since the mid-1990s. His solo exhibitions includes: Frozen Yougurt Potlash, VPF Cream Art Gallery, Lisbon; The Lazy Apprentice, Sonda Festival, Atelier-Museu António Duarte, Caldas da Rainha; From Photorealism to Abstraction, Salão Olímpico, Porto.
